2018 Coastal Chaos Skills Challenge Fall Invitational

We had a great start to the Fall Season this weekend in Bayou View.  Next up is the Coastal Chaos Skills Challenge Tournament.  The Coast Chaos softball organization would like to invite everyone to come play next weekend.  The tournament will be held on Saturday, October 6th, 2018.  It will be held at the Long Beach Softball Complex located at 780 Klondyke Road, Long Beach, MS.   We try to make these one-day tournaments. We won’t play Friday night, but Sunday will be reserved in case of inclement weather.  Normally we do everything we can to finish in one day.  We are trying to work out the detail.  But we hope to do a pitching, hitting and running competition between the pool and bracket play.  This was an extremely popular event last year.

Please register early as it will help the tournament organizers prepare for this weekend.

2018 MS Stars Ovarian Cancer Benefit

Below are brackets for this weekends tournament.  It will be held at the Bayou View Sports Complex at 4300 Hewes Av, Gulfport, MS 39507.  We’ve had a whole bunch of rain this week, but the fields were in good shape this morning.  Hopefully the rain gods will stay away from us and let us have a great day of softball.

Pool games are one hour drop dead finish the batter.  We will use a blind draw into bracket play.  Literally, teams will draw a number to be placed into the bracket.

Proceeds from this weekend’s tournament will benefit Ovarian Cancer research and the MS Stars softball team.

2018 USA Softball of South Mississippi Fall Meeting Postponed

Due to Tropical Storm and potentially Hurricane Gordon, the Fall Meeting has been postponed to Tuesday, September 11th, 2018.  Please take the proper precautions to prepare for the upcoming inclement weather.

Please let me know if you’re interested in hosting a Fall Invitational Tournament.  USA Softball doesn’t run Invitational Tournaments.  As the National Governing Body of Softball, USA Softball conducts National Championships.  Fall is an opportunity for a tournament teams to host a fundraiser tournament.  The host gets 100% of the net proceeds from the tournament to help with their team expenses.  It’s very unique where all the money goes back to the kids.  So I encourage everyone to consider hosting.

Hope to see interested teams next week.  Thank you for Playing USA Softball!

2018 USA Softball of South Mississippi Fall Meeting

I hope everyone is enjoying a little break between the spring and fall softball seasons. There a tons of notices about teams having tryouts. So it looks promising for a robust fall season. Now that kids are back in school, we can start figuring out the fall invitational tournament season.

Hosting a fall tournament is a great way to raise money for your teams. Summer tournaments are hosted by leagues, but fall tournaments are hosted by teams. All the proceeds from hosting tournaments goes to the tournament hosts. We will help registrations and getting the word out. We also help lining umpires; even help with brackets if you need it. The host collects the entry and gate fees; pays the umpires; buys the trophies; and prepares the fields. So it a way your team can raise money playing the game they love.

Players just need to be USA Softball Individually Registered. The registration from the summer is good until Dec 31st. A registered player is registered even if she changes teams since it’s a player registration.

The Fall Meeting will be at the upstairs meeting room at the Donal Snyder Center on Tuesday, September 4th, 2018 at 6:00 PM. The address is 2520 Pass Road, Biloxi, MS 39531. Meeting is open to anyone interested in hosting or playing in one of the fall tournaments.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend the meeting to tstanley@cableone.net. Also, please let me know what age group your team is planning to participate. Facebook is ok also. The URL is https://www.facebook.com/USASoftballSouthMS/.

2018 USA Softball of Mississippi 10U & 12U B State South Championships

Attached is the Tournament Information Packet for this weekend’s 2018 USA Softball of Mississippi’s 10U and 12 B South Tournament.  Please review the packet carefully.  I have included a checklist to make sure you have everything you need to play this weekend.

You are entering Championship Play, so everything will be a little more formal this weekend.  We play by the State Rules and the Official Rules of Softball.  The local tournament rules do not apply.  You will need a roster.  Included in the packet is rules for coach pitch and fast pitch.  I have included a roster that must be filled out and signed by the parents.  All players must be USA Softball Individually Registered.  The preferred method to register is online at: http://usasoftballsouthms.com/?page_id=1532

One coach must be ACE Certified; doesn’t have to be the head coach.  It’s mandated by code and the U.S. Olympic Committee.  The ACE training in available online at:
http://registerusasoftball.com.

There will not be a Coaches Meeting.  The plan is to only play on Saturday, so there just isn’t time.  Players must check-in before their first game.  Please allow about 15 minutes to check-in before they play.  Be sure to allow enough time for them to check-in before they warm-up.  They will not play without checking in.

Since we won’t have a coaches meeting, here’s some important points for this weekend:
  • In pool play, all players can be in the line-up.  In case of injury, an out will not be recorded if they miss their turn at bat as long as they are not short handed (<9 batter).  The injured bat is ineligible for the rest of that game.
  • In bracket play, can only bat nine batters. Can use a DP/Flex, but only 9 player will bat.
  • Courtesy runners must be an available substitute…. no subs then no courtesy runner
  • There will be no coaches on the field on defense… no sitting on the bucket outside the dugout calling pitches (Championship Play rule)
  • No coaches agreements
  • No metal jewelry except for medical id bracelets
  • All substitutions go through home plate umpire
  • Home team will be official scorekeeper
  • Flip at home plate for home/visitor
  • Only head coach will make inquiry about rules interpretation or call.

The tournament will be held at the Bayou View Sports Complex in Gulfport.  The address is 4300 Hewes Av, Gulfport, Mississippi, 39507.  The weather forecast has a chance of showers, so you should be prepared for anything.  Be sure your players hydrate to be able to handle the heat.

Good Luck to everyone.  Most of all, we want the players to be safe and have a fun weekend.

Thanks for Playing USA Softball!
