2014 Mississippi ASA State Championships

June 6, 2014

Everyone,

It’s time to get ready for Championship Play. The deadline for the State Tournaments is rapidly approaching. The Fast Pitch deadline is June 15th. Coach Pitch deadline is June 22nd. We have a bunch of work to do to get everyone prepared.

Below is a link to the 2014 Mississippi ASA Junior Olympic State Tournaments schedule. If your teams want to participate, you will need to submit a Tournament Entry Form and Entry Fee. I will be collecting them at the Gulf Coast Championships in Helena next weekend.

Here’s a list of the State Tournaments:

ALL TOURNAMENT ENTRY FORMS AND ENTRY FEES ARE DUE AT GULF COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS NEXT WEEKEND.
Below is a checklist of items necessary for Championship Play:

1. Tournament Entry Form. Please complete a Tournament Entry Form. The form is linked below. Please indicate which tournament (A, B or C) you would like to participate in. We will be working classifications starting next week to determine where you qualify. Coach Pitch goes to South State in Laurel the weekend of July 4-6, 2014. We need to take care of those also.

Here’s the Tournament Entry Form:

2. Tournament Entry Fee. I need a check with the entry fee so I can get your team registered. Fast Pitch is $325.00. All State Fast Pitch Tournaments are two pool games to double elimination. C is now also two pool double elimination. In the 10U A/B and 12U A/B, we might use a drop down bracket for classification. We basically would use a bracket to find the four best teams, then reseed the tournament into two separate double elimination brackets. That’s something I’m in consultation with the State Director regarding. Coach Pitch South State is straight double elimination and the Tournament Entry Fee is $200.00.

3. Championship Roster. You will need to complete a Championship Roster will all your players listed and parent’s signatures. I can sign your form at the GCC. The Tournament Director at the State Tournament can also sign it if we don’t catch up.

4. ASA Individual Registration. All players participating in ASA Championship Play must be Individually Registered. This is a national requirement, not Mississippi ASA. Most of your players should are already Individually Registered. The cost is $15 per player. I will print an ASA Registration Card for you to show at the tournament.

Individual Registration including payment can now be done online at this URL:
https://www.usasoftballsouthms.com/?page_id=1532
This is the preferred method for submitting Individual Registrations.

5. ACE Certification. At least one Coach must be ACE Certified. The certification can be completed online at http://www.registerasa.com/. It’s $25 for Level 1 and $20 for Levels 2-4. You only need one level per year. You also have to renew it every year.

6. Background Checks: Every person in the dugout must have a background check. It’s included with the ACE Certification. You can do just the background check at http://registerasa.com/. But I highly recommend the ACE training. You get the training, background check, liability insurance and identification card with proof of the background check.

7. Birth Certificates. You must present a birth certificate for each player at the tournament. Copies are fine. If you don’t have a birth certificate, one of the following forms of birth verification or proof of age must be available to the Tournament Director: Birth Certificate, hospital certificate, baptismal certificate, driver’s license, or a valid passport. Photocopies of any of the above are acceptable for J.O. identification.

8. Recent Photo. You must have a recent photo for each player with the birth certificate.

9. Notebook. It’s best to keep a notebook with all your players birth certificates, photos and Individual Registration Cards. I keep a binder with everything for a player in a single sheet protector. It also helps if your Tournament Director if they are in the same order as on the roster.

10. Nationals. If you want to play in a National Tournament, please tell you State Tournament Director at the tournament.

Please let me know if your team wishes to participate in a State Tournament. I want to make sure I get your team registered so they can go play. Just let me know how I can help you.

Let’s make it a great weekend! Thank you for Playing ASA!

Thanks,,,
