This year has absolutely flown by. We are rapidly approaching Championship Play. I’ll send out another email tomorrow with the information on Championship Play. This week, the Gulf Coast Championships will be held in Ocean Springs, MS this weekend. Dates for the tournament is Jun 14-16, 2013. We will host all age groups: Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, 10u All-Star, 10u Open, 12u All-Star, 12u Open, 14u & High School.
This will be a big, big tournament. Based on the number of teams we had last year and our numbers so far, I wouldn’t be surprised to see 80-90 teams. We have 26 teams already. I see having to play Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It just depends on how many teams want to play. I won’t know for sure until I do the brackets.
The Gulf Coast Championships reflects a more regional significance. It’s a title which signifies the importance of the Gulf Coast to Mississippi ASA and the strength of fast pitch softball in the region. We do limit the participation to a teams based in District 1 or having played in one of our invitational tournaments.
Communications will be via email. Registration will close Wednesday night around 5:00pm. We have a lot of planning and activities to get ready. So we need to register a little earlier this week. The brackets will be posted before Thursday at 5:00pm. I’ll email them out to first. Then I’ll post the brackets on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/GulfCoastASA and at https://usasoftballsouthms.com/. Please do not call, email or text looking for brackets. It will just distract me from actually getting them done. If you don’t see them, I haven’t finished them yet.
The Ocean Springs Girls Softball League is our tournament host at their brand new facility on Highway 57. We will use the 5 baseball fields and 4 softball fields there. We need some special help this weekend. Please help keep the place tidy. If you could place all your trash in the provide receptacles. Very important, parking is very limited at the Ocean Springs Sportsplex. So please car pool as much as possible. It will really help. RVs will not be allowed this weekend. They just don’t have room for them.

One final thing. I’ve had a lot of people ask if they “have” to play in the Gulf Coast Championships. Well the short answer is no. But I’m trying to create a really special tournament. This is where we crown the Gulf Coast Champion.
